Meghalaya CM addresses induction training prog for 35 MCS officers

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the Induction Training Programme for the 35 newly selected Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) Officers, Batch 2025, at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI), Shillong on February 25.

Addressing the new officers, the Chief Minister congratulated them on their selection and reminded them of the responsibility and purpose of public service. He urged them to always see the larger picture and work with passion, patience, and a people-first approach.

“You are stepping into a position of authority, but leadership is about service, not power. The decisions you take will directly impact people’s lives. The pen you hold is mightier than the sword—it can bring justice, resolve grievances, and create change. Use it wisely,” he advised.

The chief minister underscored the importance of discipline, integrity, and ethics, while urging officers to stay firm in their principles, even when faced with tough decisions. He also advised them to handle difficult postings with a positive mindset, treating challenges as opportunities to grow.

Informing on Meghalaya’s vision for growth, he encouraged the officers to read and understand the state’s Vision 2032 document, which outlines key development goals, including the state’s target to become a top 10 state in India’s GDP rankings.

Stressing on the importance of continuous learning, he said, “Your training does not end here. Every posting will be a learning experience. Stay updated, understand government schemes, and always find ways to make a real difference.”

Director General of MATI, R.V. Suchiang, IAS (Retd.), spoke about the challenges and responsibilities of civil servants. She reminded the officer trainees that ethics and discipline are crucial in public service.

“There will be moments when you must choose between what is easy and what is right. Choose wisely, because shortcuts and compromises will cost you your credibility,” she said.

Additional Chief Secretary Shakil Ahmed spoke on the need for strong leadership, teamwork, and effective decision-making. “Your success as an administrator will depend on your ability to listen, engage, and act with fairness,” he said.

The induction programme was also attended by senior government officials, including Commissioner & Secretary of the Personnel Department, Director General of MATI, and other dignitaries.
