Meghalaya CM announces Rs 210 crores for major initiatives in youth empowerment and women’s safety

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the launch of several new flagship programs aimed at enhancing youth empowerment and women’s safety in the state.
During the presentation of the budget, Sangma said that an amount of Rs 21 crores has been allocated to the YESS Meghalaya program, which aims to empower youth organizations to drive social change. Sangma emphasized the importance of engaging the youth in meaningful activities that contribute to the state’s development.
The Chief Minister also announced the construction of four Working Women Hostels with a combined capacity of 1,000 beds in New Shillong, Tura, Jowai, and Byrnihat. These hostels will include day care facilities for children, ensuring safe accommodation and support for working women.
Furthermore, Sangma highlighted the FOCUS and FOCUS+ programs, which are the state’s flagship Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programs for producer groups of farmers and individual farmers. The annual support under FOCUS+ has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per household, with Rs 75 crores allocated for the implementation of these programs in 2025-26.
The Chief Minister also detailed the allocation of Rs 114 crores for the CM CARE program, which has benefitted 1,18,000 citizens so far.
