Meghalaya CM appeals against stigmatization of frontline workers
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has urged the people of the state not to stigmatize against COVID-19 frontline workers citing that this is not the solution to tackle the pandemic.
“We need to slowly and steadily start to accept (the present situation) and not to stigmatize against people (especially those) who are working in different medical institutions and who could have been exposed to the virus,” Sangma said after a meeting held with the opposition MLAs on Thursday.
“If society does not accept them and say that they are high risk, it really brings down the morale of these people who are working day and night to protect you and me,” he said.
The chief minister also emphasized the need for all 60 MLAs to play an important role in sensitizing the society on how to handle the present situation.
“By running away from it and stigmatizing people is not the solution. We need to work together as a society,” he said.
Sangma said that in the past three months, the state have come a long way and have learnt a lot from these situations.
“I assure you as a government we have been learning with every step of the situation and it is only making us better and stronger and in this, we seek the cooperation of all the MLAs and the people,” he said.
