Meghalaya CM appeals for public support after devastating floods
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has issued an appeal to the public for donations to support those affected by the recent devastating floods. The floods have left countless families devastated, as homes have been destroyed, livelihoods lost, and entire communities torn apart. Out of the eleven districts of Meghalaya, West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills bore the brunt of nature’s fury, leaving a trail of destruction that claimed 17 precious human lives.
“A whole family was buried in a deluge of mud, a father and his teenage son were swept away and submerged by floodwater, and three generations of women were wiped out by a landslide. Our brethren are terrified and shattered by the destruction caused by these heavy rains,” Chief Minister Sangma stated, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
The Chief Minister appealed to the public to come forward and contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, noting that every donation, regardless of size, can help provide immediate relief and assist in rebuilding the affected communities.
