Meghalaya CM assures to look into alleged corruption in ADCs
Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Monday assured to take action into the alleged corruption in the implementation of the Centre’s special assistance grants (SAGs) by the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) in Jaintia and Garo Hills region.
“It is not that the government has not taken any interest or any kind of concern over what has been mentioned but the government will definitely look into it and we will take action at an appropriate time,” Sangma told reporters.
The state BJP had threatened to pull out of the National People’s Party-led MDA government over the alleged corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
The BJP had also demanded for a CBI inquiry into the misappropriation of SAG funds by the two tribal councils.
The saffron party had said that over Rs 20 crore of SAG development fund have been diverted for payment of salaries to the employees in JHADC violating the guidelines issued by the NITI Aayog.
In GHADC a documentary project costing Rs 5.82 crore was allotted without any tender or bidding for supplying information, education and communication (IEC) materials to the Council, it had alleged.
Asked whether the state government would recommend a CBI inquiry into the alleged scam, the chief minister however said, “We will see how it goes.”
Earlier, BJP state president, Ernest Mawrie had informed that his party had already submitted information to the NITI Aayog, Ministry of Finance and the CBI, for necessary action into the matter.
