Meghalaya CM condoles death of first COVID-19 patient

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today expressed his deepest condolence to the bereaved family members of the first COVID-19 patient, who passed away at 2:45 am. 

“I would like to take this opportunity, first of all, to express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.  I know that the family is going through a very tough time and I would like to say that may God give all the strength to them during this trying times to bear all this pain and difficulty,” said the Chief Minister in his message to the citizens via Facebook post published in CMO Meghalaya Official. 

He informed that a total of 118 tests results have come out of which 68 were declared yesterday late evening and 50 were declared today afternoon. Of the 68 test, six were confirmed positive, while of the 50 test results from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, all were negative.  

He said that most of the people who tested positive were mostly the immediate family and house members of the patient. “Apart from that we received 50 results today from GMC and out of this 50 results all have tested negative and we are waiting for another 43 from Barpeta Medical College, the results of that we should be receiving soon,” the Chief Minister added. 

On other arrangements, the Chief Minister informed that most of the people who had come in primary contact have been quarantined and the process for contact tracing of secondary is underway. 

“Almost all the primary contacts have been quarantined and tests are being done at the earliest,” said the Chief Minister. 

On allegations of delay in food arrangements, the Chief Minister said, “I would like to inform that arrangements have been made to ensure that food and other facilities are provided to those people who are in the isolation wards and in corona care centre.” 

“I received some complaints today that food was not reaching on time. I would like to inform that the food has been reaching to the corona care centres. We had some challenges because the volunteers who were trained to distribute this in a proper and protocol manner within the corona care centres were not able to reach these centres because of certain restrictions in certain localities and maybe some family restriction,” the Chief Minister added. 

The Chief Minister also thanked civil societies and other organisations for lending their support during this crisis. 

He also urged people’s cooperation and support while the government is trying its best to deal with the situation. “It is not just the government alone but it is the society that has to come together, so I would once again appeal that we must come together and ensure that we maintain our social distancing and personal hygiene to overcome this particular situation,” the Chief Minister said.
