Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma launches tourism vehicle scheme to boost tourist experience
In a significant move to boost tourism, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday launched Prime Tourism Vehicle Scheme to tour operators and individuals.
Under this scheme, 16 Innova Crysta vehicles have been rolled out, ensuring high-quality mobility and enriching the overall tourism experience in Meghalaya.
In a tweet, Conrad Sangma said, “The Tourism Department has shortlisted 50 individuals and groups out of over 600 applicants who applied for the scheme. The government will provide a 50 percent subsidy, including loan repayment for the next two years.”
Highlighting the long-term vision, CM Sangma said, “We will be giving a total of 50 vehicles in this financial year, minimum, and depending on the response and utility that we see, we intend to do this every year. So if you do it for the next five years, we expect that we should be having 250 vehicles minimum in the next five years. But our endeavor will be after seeing the demand in the market and the utility of the vehicle and response that we get. We may even increase it to 500 in the next five years.”
He further emphasized the government’s commitment to bridging gaps in various sectors. Drawing a parallel to the agricultural sector, where subsidized Mahindra Pick-ups were provided to farmers and associations. CM Sangma acknowledged the financial viability and job creation potential in the tourism sector. He expressed openness to exploring similar opportunities in other sectors based on market demand and identified gaps.
This initiative is part of the government’s comprehensive strategy to promote tourism and foster a conducive ecosystem. By offering luxury vehicles to individuals and groups, Meghalaya aims to create a better environment for the thriving tourism sector, further enhancing its appeal to visitors.
