Meghalaya CM expresses confidence that NPP will win all 3 Assembly seats
National People’s Party (NPP) national president and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday expressed confidence that his party will come out victorious in the upcoming bye elections to the three Assembly seats slated for October 30.
Sangma however told reporters that the party, its leaders and the candidates cannot take things lightly as there is no question of being over confident.
“We know that the people will support us but it is our duty to work till and ensure we win with a maximum margin possible so we will work hard and with the kind of support and respond we are getting from the people, I am very sure in all the three constituencies we will come out with flying colours,” he said.
Sangma was accompanying the two candidates from Mawryngkneng and Mawphlang – Pyniaid Sing Syiem and Lamphrang Blah – during the filing of nomination for the bye elections.
Asked, the chief minister said that the question of anti-incumbency does not arise.
“We have been working very hard, we have been doing a lot of developmental work, people have been seeing it. There are issues and concerns which every government has and faces, we are not saying that everything has been perfect but if you look at the overall work done in the last three and half years especially with the challenge of COVID in front of us, the government has done its best that it could and therefore we are quite confident that people will see all of that and respond in a positive manner,” he added.
Sangma further claimed that the two candidates who are also sitting MDCs of the KHADC have done a lot for their respective constituencies.
“Pyniaid has done a lot for his people similarly Blah has been a person elected four times from his constituency – so people have connections with them, people have love for them and I am sure their personal rapport with the people will also reflect very positively in this election and we are sure with their personal rapport and the support of the party, we will win all the three seats in this bye election,” he stated.
