Meghalaya CM felicitates Myngken school football team for securing 3rd in Indo-French Football Tournament

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on April 8, felicitated the Under-17 football team of Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School from Ri-Bhoi District for their outstanding achievement at the Indo-French Football Tournament 2025 held in Paris, France. The team secured third place in the prestigious tournament, which was held from March 25 to 29.
The felicitation ceremony took place at the Main Conference Hall, Main Secretariat, in the presence of Director of Sports and Youth Affairs D.D. Shira, Meghalaya Football Association President Hamletson Dohling, and other government officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma praised the young athletes for their exceptional performance on the international stage.”This is not just a victory in football; it is a victory for the youth of Meghalaya. Your performance has made the entire state proud and shown the world that talent from our hills can shine on any global stage,” he said.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to sports as a vehicle of empowerment and transformation. “The Government of Meghalaya considers sports as an integral part of education and youth development. Our policies, infrastructure, and missions are all geared towards nurturing and supporting our young talents,” he emphasized.
The Myngken Christian HSS team earned an invitation to participate in the Indo-French Tournament following their runner-up finish in the Subroto Cup 2024. In France, they faced elite clubs such as FC Versailles, Sarcelles FC, and Grigny FC. The team exhibited grit and sportsmanship, eventually claiming third place.
Beyond football, the players also engaged in career counselling and well-being sessions organized by the Indo-French Sports Association, equipping them with valuable insights into the world of professional sports and future opportunities.

The entire team comprises Class IX and X students from Myngken Christian HSS. The players who were felicitated are Wanpli Malang (captain), Mebankhraw Nongrum, Precious Stone Nongsiej, Mebatskhem Shylla, Bipiush G Marak, Pynshailang L Nonglait, Saindur Rynjah, Banpliebok Khongjoh, Richborn Kharpuri, Erickson Pamsad, Banganson Nongphlang, Samepaia Thangkhiew, Andrewson Marbaniang, Franky Dkhar, Alicestar Thangkhiew, and Mebanlamlynti Masharing.
They were guided by head coach Bobby L Nongbet (DSO Nongpoh, AFCA Licence), assistant coach Kitborlang Kharlukhi, and team manager Carmelius Ramshon. The government supported the team’s international journey with a sponsorship of nearly Rs 50 lakh.
