Meghalaya CM inaugurates Namdong block in West Jaintia Hills
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday inaugurated the Namdong C&RD Block in West Jaintia Hills in presence of Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and MLA Wailadmiki Shylla.
The Namdong C & RD Block with its headquarter in Namdong village is the fourth Block under West Jaintia Hills District.
The distance of the new Block from Thadlaskein C & RD Block is 34 kms. It will covered a population of 22,534 with 4007 nos. of Household and 40 nos. of Villages.
Out of 15 (fifteen) Gram Sevaks Circles in the existing Thadlaskein C&R.D Block, 4 (four) Gram Sevak Circles will be moved to the new Block at Namdong Area. The remaining 11 (eleven) Gram Sevak Circles will continues in Thadlaskein C& R.D Block with approximate Area of 63, 700 Hectares and the population is 86, 555.
Meghalaya Rural Bank located at a distance of approximately 22 kms from the proposed Block Headquarter and Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank at Nartiang village which is at a distance of approximately 18kms from the proposed Block Headquarter.
A police out post is located at Saitsama village at a distance of 15kms approximately from the proposed Block Headquarter and Police Station at Nartiang village which is at a distance of approximately 18kms from the proposed Block Headquarter.
Namdong CHC is located at Namdong B village.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the Chief Minister said that the creation of the new block will bring good governance closer to the people. “The new C&RD Block will ensure schemes are utilised to the maximum for the development of villages. In line with the aspirations of the people, the new Namdong C&RD Block will open new avenues of progress for the villages and its people,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that despite challenges and financial constraints, the State Government has been able to mobilise resources to push development and initiate welfare projects.
“As a Government, we have initiated projects that were pending for several years. Our Government has accelerated the momentum of growth and development. In the past 4.5 years, the State has witnessed significant improvements in various development indices,” he added.
He told the gathering that the block office will start functioning with immediate effect. “Administrative reform is important. Block offices can do much more. We are making a move by making amendments in the services that the blocks in the State can provide.
With adequate and trained personnel we will introduce various services that are usually done from Sub-Division or DC offices from the block. We will make those reforms for the benefit of the people”, he stressed.
