Meghalaya CM orders inquiry into MeECL irregularities
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has ordered an independent inquiry to probe into the alleged irregularities and scams in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
“I have given the order that an inquiry should be constituted at the earliest and this independent inquiry should be headed by a retired judge along with two members in it. The process has started and hopefully in the next few days it will be formed,” Sangma said on Wednesday.
He said the inquiry committee will be given four to six months time to complete the exercise.
This came after growing demands from several quarters including the United Democratic Party (UDP).
The chief minister also said that the terms of references of the committee will include different kinds of tenders that have taken place from MeECL, from central as well as state schemes.
He said it will also look into different kinds of manpower issues like appointments and other irregularities in the human resource angle, the allegations of power theft and the overall AT&C losses.
