Meghalaya CM slams N Biren Singh for dragging PA Sangma’s stand over Manipur situation

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday slammed former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh for dragging the name of his late father Purno Agitok Sangma’s stand to corner him over Manipur situation.
Conrad has termed Biren’s statement as unfortunate.
Taking to x.com, Meghalaya CM said, “It’s unfortunate that @NBirenSingh ji has dragged the name of (L) Shri P. A. Sangma ji. Sangma ji has always fought for the people of the North East, was a strong advocate for different issues and rights of the people of the North East.”
“At this time, everyone’s efforts should be towards the restoration of peace and harmony in Manipur and not indulge in political posturing. We all have to work together. I once again appeal to everyone to work for the betterment of the people of Manipur.
This is what (L) P A Sangma ji would have wanted,” he wrote.
Biren Singh had alleged that P.A. Sangma once advocated for dividing the Northeast along ethnic lines, calling it a “dangerous” idea. He argued that the current crisis stems from challenges like illegal immigration, deforestation, and the drug menace, not politics.
He defended Manipur’s policies, including the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and border security measures, questioning Sangma’s understanding of these issues. Singh warned against external interference, stating, “Manipur’s experiences should be a lesson, not a platform for political posturing. The state’s 32 indigenous tribes deserve protection.”
