Meghalaya CM takes up with Assam CM over statement made by KAAC chief
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said the government does not appreciate the statement made by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief that Khasi residents of Mukroh are “illegal settlers’ ‘.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said that the government does not appreciate such a statement as they don’t help the situation at all.
He informed, “Of course after that I had a direct talk with the Assam chief minister and he has also told me that these statements should not be made.”

The chief minister however said such statements made by individuals and people from different levels should not be looked at as the stand of any government. This is because all other statements being made by others are made at their level.
“The discussion at the chief ministers’ level and at the home minister’s level. So at that level the home minister has himself and also chief minister of Assam has also told that these kinds of things should not have happened,” he said. He said that the stand of the two chief ministers is what the official stand of the two governments is.
Meanwhile, the chief minister had assured that the government will immediately set up the seven border outposts (BOPs) in Mukroh and other sensitive areas along the inter-state border with Assam.
