Meghalaya CM to convene meeting on border issue on Feb 23
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will convene a meeting with stakeholders to discuss the inter-state boundary issue on February 23.
Sources said that political parties, traditional heads and NGOs have been requested to attend the said meeting.
Meanwhile, Sangma and his counterpart Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are still waiting for the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to call them for discussion and finalizing the border agreement on the six of the twelve areas of difference.
On January 29, Sangma and Sarma had finalized the border agreement on the first six areas of difference.
“We have come to an understanding in the first six locations and I don’t think we will be having another meeting with the Assam CM as we have finalized everything. Now we will wait for the Government of India to call us. Based on that, we will be able to come out with the final resolution for the first six areas of difference,” Sangma had informed.
The six areas of difference under the first phase include Tarabari (4.69 sq km), Gizang (13.53 sq km), Hahim (3.51 sq km), Boklapara (1.57 sq kms), Khanapara-Pilangkata (2.29 sq kms) and Ratacherra (11.20 sq kms).
