Meghalaya CM visits flood hit areas in Garo Hills, relief provided to over 30,000 population

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday visited flood affected areas of the plain belt of Garo Hills.
Silkata, Namabila and Haripur were some of the worst hit areas. Over 30,000 people have been displaced.
“There is a lot of flood right now and the water levels are almost 5-6 feet up above normal and as per the estimates that I have received close to about 30,000 families have been affected in the whole beld out here,” Sangma said while speaking at the sidelines of his visit.
Stating that the situation is quite bad, the chief minister said, “I must appreciate the fact that the administration has very quickly moved into action and provided general relief and safety shelter to the affected families.”
According to him, there has been no loss of life till now.

“All the citizens have been evacuated and put into shelter homes and safe places and we will wait and see how things go and wherever there is any kind of danger or situation that we find anybody could be affected, we are on alert and we will ensure that individuals are shifted out quickly from there and brought into safety,” he said.
“So we will continue to monitor the situation but as I said this is a natural calamity and all the support required from the government and administration is being provided to the affected families,” the CM added.
