Meghalaya come up with initiative of daily news & current affairs sharing during morning assembly in schools from 2025
With a vision of inculcating the habit of reading newspapers or listening to news, the Meghalaya Education Department has directed all schools in the State to select one student from senior classes for sharing important news and currents affairs during the morning assembly session from the next academic session.
This initiative was notified by the Meghalaya Education Department its notification issued on 20th of this month, which was the last official working day for this year.
According to the notification, the Education Department underlined on the need for the conducting of morning assembly session at the beginning of the school day where the students will get an opportunity to improve their communication skills.
The Department directed the schools to select one student for share with everyone “Thought of the Day” and these shall primarily be about motivation and morale boosting. The notification also directed the Principal or Teachers of the school to apprise during the morning assembly about any matter requiring urgent attention of all students.
The notification also called for the administration of a suitable Student Pledge to all students, which emphasize on Discipline, Conduct, Punctuality and Compassion.
According to the notification, all schools shall take steps to ensure that the State gradually move towards formative assessments as suggested by National Education policy (NEP) 2020. The schools are advised to plan for assessments or unit tests from time to time and the schools may also opt for monthly or quarterly assessments.
Regarding the final examinations for Classes I to IX, the Directorate of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) will announce the schedule for all schools under the State Board and oversee the uploading of marks to the web portal. The results of the Final Examination conducted by all schools must be immediately uploaded on the UDISE Portal using the school logins.
The notification informed that as laid down in Section 24(e) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act 2009, all schools shall hold regular meetings with parents and guardians and apprise them about the regularity in attendance, ability to learn, progress made in learning and any other relevant information about the child. It is suggested that these meetings be held at least once a year and the same can be organized on the Result Day of the school.
