Meghalaya Congress stages protest over rape, murder of dalit girl
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Wednesday observed silent satya’ as a mark to register strong protest against the brutal rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl at Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
In his address, MPCC working president, James S Lyngdoh condemned the actions of the district administration of denying justice to the victim, by hurriedly cremating her body without mandatory medical examination, allegedly to destroy all evidence.
He also condemned the actions of the Hathras district magistrate for threatening the family of the victim in broad daylight not to press for investigation otherwise to face dire consequences.
Lyngdoh further condemned the Uttar Pradesh government under Yogi Adityanath, not only for trying to obstruct Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra, on their way to express sympathy and solidarity and also for physical assault on both of them and Congress workers.
Others who spoke on the occasion were MPCC spokesperson and former legislator Kennedy Khyriem, former MLA from Jaintia Hills ECB Bamon and MPYC president Richard R Marak.
