Meghalaya COVID-19 | Fresh case reported in Garo Hills
A stranded person who returned to Garo Hills from Chennai has been tested positive for COVID-19.
This came a day after the state was declared coronavirus free as all 12 patients, who were tested positive for the virus, have fully recovered.
Confirming the case, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the latest case was among the second batch of stranded people who returned to Meghalaya from Chennai.
“One of the persons from Garo Hills, who came back from chennai in the second batch has tested positive for Covid -19.. the person is asymtomatic and has been in institutional quarantine in Tura. We are monitoring the situation,” CM tweeted on Tuesday night.
Earlier, the state government has decided that rapid diagnostic test (RDT) and reverse trasnscription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) will be carried out simultaneously for screening of stranded people who returned to the state from places categorized as red zone.
A total of 6811 people have so far returned to the state from various parts of Northeast states as well as other states in the country.
After a review meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has informed that a total of 3354 samples were tested as on today out of which 3091 were negative while test results of 250 is awaited.
