Meghalaya declared COVID-19 free state
Meghalaya has been declared coronavirus free as all patients in the state have recovered.
The announcement was made on Monday after the 12th patient was tested negative for COVID-19. The first case was reported on April 13.
“I am happy to inform that Meghalaya has no more active cases. Out of 13 (positive cases), 12 have fully recovered and one died. Therefore, the government declares that we don’t have any single active cases,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters.
Tynsong however said that the East Khasi Hills District is still being categorized as orange zone. All the other 10 districts fall under green zone.
“East Khasi Hills still falls under orange zone but there is a process where we will submit a report to the Government of India informing that we have declared that the state has no more active cases,” he said.
A total of 3207 samples have been sent for testing out of which 2883 were negative while test results of 311 is awaited.
The state government has also saluted all frontline workers for their sacrifices in the fight against the contagious disease.
“We express and place on record our gratefulness to all frontline workers who have worked tirelessly while welcoming and testing all stranded people who returned to the state. we congratulate all of them,” Tynsong said.
According to him, a total of 6565 stranded people coming from within and outside Northeast states have reached the state till today.
Meanwhile, the deputy CM further informed that over 7,000 plus COVID-19 committees have been activated in all villages of both urban and rural areas of the state.
He said the government also expressed thankfulness to these committees for working in close coordination right from the state to the district level and down to block level for combating against the coronavirus pandemic.
