Meghalaya declares paid holiday for bye-election in 56-Gambegre Assembly Constituency

The Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, General Administration Department, announced that all state government offices and educational institutions within the 56-Gambegre (ST) Assembly Constituency will be closed on November 13, 2024. This closure is to ensure that every voter has the opportunity to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Bye-Election to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

In accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, every person employed in business, trade, industrial undertakings, or establishments governed by the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, as well as those working in shops, on a shift basis, or as daily wage and casual workers, who are voters, are entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday on this day.
