Meghalaya delegation led by CM opposes CAB in New Delhi
SHILLONG: The state delegation led by chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday submitted a resolution before the Union home minister Amit Shah expressing strong opposition against the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Meghalaya.
The delegation comprised of representatives from the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, political parites, autonomous district councils and civil societies.
Shah has convened a meeting with the different stakeholders from the North East region in New Delhi to take their views on the CAB.
“Whereas, the statekholders comprising of the representatives of state government, political parties, ADCs, civil societies met on November 29-30 at Delhi and have resolved to oppose the CAB, 2019 in the state of Meghalaya,” Sangma said in the resolution handed over to union home minister.
In a statement issued here, Chairman of Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) Robertjune Kharjahrin, who is part of the delegation, informed that home minister has assured that the CAB will not be implemented in states which are having the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and falls under Sixth Schedule area.
Kharjahrin however said the CoMSO has outrightly rejected the CAB and demanded that the same be scrapped of.
