Meghalaya Deputy Speaker files defamation against 2 persons for misinterpreting his speech on winter capital issue

Meghalaya’s deputy speaker Timothy D Shira on Wednesday filed criminal defamation cases against two individuals for accusing him of being totally against the demand for creation of a winter capital in Tura, West Garo Hills District in a social media platform.
The defamation cases were filed against Mikkanchi R Sangma of Darangiri, Goalpara District, Assam and Balsrang Marak of Thapa Darenchi, North Garo Hills in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shillong.
Speaking to reporters, Shira said, “I have filed criminal defamation cases against two individuals as they have made viral on youtube regarding my speech in the Assembly with regards to making Tura, the winter capital.”
“Without knowing the details of what I have spoken in the House, they have flashed in the youtube that I am totally against my community, I am totally against making Tura the winter capital and thereby he said he condemned me for not cooperating with the community,” he added.
