Meghalaya DGP reviews passing out parade of 146 recruit constables of 2nd Battalion
A total of 146 recruit constables of the 2nd Battalion, Meghalaya Police passed out on Monday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang reviewed the passing out parade held Goeragre, West Garo Hills District.
In her address, Nongrang said the road is challenging and urged the recruits to use the training and skills imparted to them.
She also hailed the role of instructors saying they play a very crucial role in moulding the young recruits
“In today’s world the importance of soft skills is crucial and meghalaya police is imparting the same for the men and women in uniform”, said the DGP
The DGP also recalled the contributions of past members of the force and paid homage to those who died in the line of duty.
In his speech, Commandant J F K Marak said the first Batch of Recruit Constables passed out on 5th December, 1983, and subsequently as many as 36th Batches of Recruit Constables have passed out till date comprising a total of 3112 constables.
On the 3rd of November, 2008 this Battalion was designated as an Armed Police Training Center to cater to the training needs of the Meghalaya Police.
Marak said the 146 Recruit Constables have undergone their Basic Training since 1st August, 2023.
The Recruit Constables who Pass Out to-day belong to the 1st, 3rd, & 5th Battalion Meghalaya Police, SF-10, East Khasi Hills DEF, West Jaintia Hills DEF, East Jaintia Hills DEF, Eastern West Khasi Hills DEF, West Garo Hills DEF, East Garo Hills DEF and South Garo Hills DEF.
“Over the course of the last 11 months they have undergone rigorous training in Weapons Handling, Field Craft and Tactics, Drill, Firing and other relevant areas. Our team of trainers has tried to inculcate in them the qualities and soft skills befitting a policeman such as discipline, obedience, sensitivity and a sense of pride,” he said.
“We have imparted training on basic law, gender sensitization, human rights, respect for all communities and religions and other such areas that are essential for a modern police force in ever demanding environment. We introduced modern training methods such as management games, group discussions, etc. to better understand the training curricula. As these young men start their careers we have equipped them with classes in financial planning, health awareness, family planning and other relevant areas,” he stated.
He informed that all the trainees standing here in front of us have completed their Mid Term and Final Examination in both the Indoor and Outdoor subjects and are declared to have passed this Basic Training Course conducted here at the Armed Branch Training Centre of 2nd Battalion, Meghalaya Police, Goeragre today the 15th July, 2024.
“We are confident that these young constables are now ready to join the ranks of Meghalaya Police and make their families, state and the nation proud with their dedication and valour,” the commandant added.
