Meghalaya education minister says threat from Hindu group very unfortunate
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Monday referred to the recent threat issued by a Hindu organization of blocking key roads of Meghalaya as very unfortunate.
“I always used to say that religious groups never make threats and they are not the proper group to give such threats, this is unfortunate. Look, religion is for peace. We worship God for peace and harmony for individuals, for the family and for the community,” Sangma told reporters.
The Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) has issued a 10-day ultimatum for the Meghalaya government to reopen the Mawjymbuin Cave for Hindu rituals. The group has warned of blocking key roads of Meghalaya, including Jorabat near Guwahati, if their demand is not met before Christmas.
“I think a religious group threatening like this doesn’t sound good, does not give a good message and (that) they are not a real religious group,” he said.
Stating that the Hindu group should respect local sentiments, Sangma said, “Worshiping doesn’t mean only Mawsynram they will get blessing, no, we want to worship God worship at your home, worship at your nearby, you have great Mandir in Assam.”
“Worshipping in Mawsynram doesn’t make you and him different, God is omnipresent, so means if you really want to worship God, worship at your home, you have the temple, build your temple at home,” he added.
