Meghalaya Eves continue their winning streak in BCCI U-23 Plate Group
SHILLONG: Meghalaya Cricket Association Womens’ U-23 continue their winning streak by registering their third victory in the Plate Group of BCCI U-23 tournament defeating Pondicherry by 9 wkts at Bhubaneswar.
Meghalaya winning the toss and elected to field first. Pondicherry managed to put up a total of 105 /10 in 45.5 overs. Pick of the bowlers for Meghalaya was the Skipper Debasmita Dutta claiming 4 wickets while Solina Jaba and Deiphi Mawnai accounting for 2 wickets each.
In reply to the total of 105 /10, Meghalaya made 106/1 in 39.4 overs with opener Luiza Tamang top scoring with a patient 37 runs (97 balls) while Debasmita remained unbeaten with 27 runs to her credit.
In the earlier match on 3rd April Meghalaya defeated Manipur by 6 wickets where Debasmita claimed 3 wickets/14 runs and scored an unbeaten 69 runs to ensure victory. Daiaka Warjri claimed 2 wickets/34 runs while Deiphi Mawnai though not among the wickets, was the most economical conceding just 12 runs in 10 overs. Final score, Manipur 141 for 7 in 50 overs and Meghalaya 144 for 4 wickets in 46.1 overs.
In the match against Sikkim on 1st April Meghalaya bowled out their opponent for a paltry 65 runs in 34.1 overs where Meghalaya skipper Debasmita once again returned with a haul of 5 wickets giving 23 runs. Meghalaya then rode high on an unbeaten 48 runs by Debasmita in the chase and reach 66 runs for loss of 4 wickets and in the process defeating Sikkim by 6 wickets
Meghalaya skipper Debasmita a resident of Rynjah locality of Shillong started playing cricket at a young age in her locality and then represented Meghalaya team during 2011-2012 then move to Bengaluru and represented Karnataka in U-19 and U-23 teams. However, when Meghalaya was included in all major tournaments of BCCI ,she decided to play from her home team Meghalaya where she was born and did her schooling. Meghalaya team has many players who started playing serious cricket in 2018 and hail from non cricketing locales like Mairang, Nongstoin, Mawkyrwat, Sohra, Baghmara, Williamnagar etc where Meghalaya Cricket Association has embarked on the outreach mission and honing talent by popularizing cricket in the far flung areas of the state on a mission mode to tap local talents.
