Meghalaya farmers benefit from advanced aquaculture training
The ICAR-CIFA, Rahara, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Directorate of Fisheries, Shillong, conducted a training programme on “Recirculating Aquaculture and Biofloc Systems in Freshwater Aquaculture” from December 3rd – 4th, 2024, at the Meghalaya State Fisheries Research and Training Institute (MSFR & TI), located at Mawpun.
Dr. S. Adhikari, Principal Scientist and NEH Coordinator of ICAR-CIFA, presented a lecture on effective fish pond management for enhancing fish production, while Dr. R. N. Mandal, also a Principal Scientist, lectured on the cultivation of live fish food organisms. Dr. S. Sarkar complemented the session via virtual format with a lecture on Biofloc Technology. Additionally, Dr. Arabinda Das provided insights on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems in freshwater aquaculture.
The program included field visits and opportunities for interaction with local fish farmers. Around 40 farmers from Ri-Bhoi District participated in the training.
