Meghalaya: Four more died of COVID-19, death toll rises to 98
The death of four persons has pushed the death toll due to COVID-19 to 98 in the state on Thursday.
82-year-old Jogendar Sharma and Hemarson Marak (54), both residents of Tura passed away at Tura civil hospital on November 11 while Nowin Karthak Lepcha (58) of Keating road and Balajied Kharshiing (41) of Umsning, Ri Bhoi passed at Shillong civil hospital, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
“Sharma died due to COVID-19 with upper GI bleed with shock with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension while Marak due to acute respiratory distress syndrome with sepsis with hypertension,” he said.
Dr War said Kharshiing also passed away on November 11, due to uraemic encephalopathy with Covid pneumonia with chronic infection with severe metabolic acidosis type 2 diabetes mellitus with CKD with hypertension.
Lepcha on the other hand was declared brought dead on Thursday morning, after he was tested positive for COVID-19 on November 9 at his residence. The patient has history of type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension he said.
The state has also recorded 144 new positive cases and recovery of 56 patients on Thursday.
The new cases include 54 from Ri Bhoi district, 38 East Khasi Hills district, 22 West Khasi Hills district, 10 East Garo Hills district, 8 West Garo Hills district, 6 West Jaintia Hills district, 3 East Jaintia Hills district, 2 South Garo Hills district and 1 South West Garo Hills district.
Of 56 persons who recovered from COVID-19, Dr War said 27 are from West Jaintia Hills, 19 from East Khasi Hills, 4 West Garo Hills, 3 North Garo Hills, 1 East Garo Hills, 1 East Jaintia Hills, and 1 Ri Bhoi.
The state has detected a total of 10,511 COVID-19 out of which 1,045 are active cases, 9,368 recovered and 98 deaths.
Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 283 positive cases that include 5 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 278 civilians, Ri Bhoi 306, West Garo Hills 116, West Jaintia Hills 81, East Garo Hills 101, East Jaintia Hills 64, North Garo Hills 12, West Khasi Hills 30, South Garo Hills 28, South West Garo Hills 23 and South West Khasi Hills 1.
“Till date, swab samples of 2,17,077 persons have been tested of which 2,06,566 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 58,091 entrants from outside the state.
