Meghalaya Games: Ri-Bhoi and WJH lead weightlifting, spectacular Wushu bouts, and EKH dominates taekwondo, climbing, and golf
The Meghalaya Games saw Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills leading the weightlifting medal tally.
In the women’s 49 kg category, Isalarica Lapang from SWKH won gold with 110 points. Fourki Suchen and Alicia Dora Syiem took silver and bronze, respectively.
In the women’s 55 kg category, Larityngkai Lawriniang (EWKH) won gold, Balawanshwa Kharkongor (RB) silver, and Wanhunlang Thabah (RB) bronze. In the women’s 59 kg category, Bavaria Shullai won gold with 92 points, while Ibanrihun Maring took silver with 88 points.
In the women’s 71 kg category, Ri-Bhoi claimed gold and silver, with Aiei Banity Lyngdoh and Ibalaiohkhamtilut Namsaw, respectively. Deiphibanri Lyngdoh from EKH won bronze.
Wushu Bouts: Day 3 was electrifying with Wushu bouts at the Jowai Presbyterian UP School Indoor Hall. In the men’s 75 kg category, Nangkitboklang Songthiang (EKH) won gold, Lanianglang Thangbri (RB) silver, and Dap Dkhar (WJH) bronze.
In the men’s 45 kg category, Pyniohnam Myrboh (WKH) took gold, Rismenki Lyngdoh (WJH) silver, and Andy Tilzer B. Sangma (WGH) and Rodrick Denzil Suting (WKH) shared bronze.
In the women’s 60 kg category, Lorenza Songthiang (EKH) won gold, Sany Khyriemujat (EKH) silver, and Ibansara Lathong (WJH) and Pretty Chyrmang (EJH) shared bronze.
In the women’s 48 kg category, Thaichemaya Momin (WGH) won gold, Riwa Kyndait (EJH) silver, and Anishacilia Manar (WJH) and Bashisha Nongrum (EKH) shared bronze.
Taekwondo, Spot Climbing, and Golf: East Khasi Hills swept all three gold medals in Taekwondo Poomsae at the Sein Raij Indoor Sports Hall. In the female category, Nengnunnem Jenevy, Janiya Shamukcham, and Elizabeth Chingnunmawi of EKH scored top points. Ri Bhoi took bronze with Pragati Gayary, Preety Subba, and Asha Sunar. In the male category, West Garo Hills took silver, and East Garo Hills took bronze.
In Under-16 girls’ lead climbing, Dadapbiang Lyngdoh and Aijingsuk Lyngdoh (EKH) took first and second, and Idaseisoh Tongper (WJH) took third. In Under-16 boys’ lead climbing, Givensamson Lyngdoh (SWKH) took first, Bhabok Nongkhlaw (EKH) second, and Ayush Ch Momin (EGH) third.
At the Laitkor Golf Course, Johnwell G Momin and Billykid A Sangma (WGH) won gold in men’s golf for professionals and super seniors. EKH dominated with 11 medals out of 17. Jason Kerchwami Passah (WJH), Amit Sukla Baidya (EKH), and Anthony Hek (EKH) won gold in amateur, mid-amateur, and senior categories. In women’s golf, Pooja Goenka and Jyoti Agarwal (EKH) took gold and silver.
