Meghalaya Government announces renaming of Roads and Buildings
The Meghalaya Government has announced the renaming of several key roads and buildings across the state, effective immediately.
As per the notification issued by CVD Diengdoh, IAS Secretary incharge General Administration Department, detailed in notifications No.GAB.69/2000/Pt IV/16 and No.GAB.69/2000/Pt IV/17, the following changes have been made:
The Approach Road from NH-217 to Baghmara Bong Market will now be known as Capt. Williamson A. Sangma Road. The road from Mawkdok to the Office of the Syiem of Hima Sohra via Motor Station Lewbah Sohra is renamed U Syiem Duwansing Syiem Road. The road from Sohra (Gate) Nongsawlia via Saitsophen to Mawsmai Road has been renamed U Thomas Jones Road.
Additionally, the PWD Road from near Bajengdoba U.P. School up to the residence of the Martyr, Ullum R Marak, will now be referred to as Ullum R Marak Road. The road from Mawkhar Community Hall to Jaiaw Langsning Community Hall is now named Doctor Hugh Gordon Roberts Road. Holy Cross Hospital Road has been renamed Bishop George Mamalassery Road, and the road from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills leading to Police Reserve, Tura is now Rel Deo Sangma Road.
In terms of buildings, the Raitong Building will now be called Lum Shyllong Building, and the GNM School of Nursing Nongpoh will be known as GNM School of Nursing Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh.
For existing localities, the name Lumbatngen (Law-u-Sib) will remain unchanged as Lumbatngen.
