Meghalaya Government to launch Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for supporting Class XI & Class XII students
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed that the Government will launch the Mission Education 2.0 in 2024-25 for providing assured minimum facilities-power, clean drinking water, toilets, and basic furniture- at all government schools with the total budgetary allocation of Rs.100 crores.
This was told by Sangma during the placing of the Meghalaya State Budget on Wednesday.
Sangma said that under the Early Childhood Development Mission, the government plans to upgrade 2,148 existing Anganwadi centres and expand the network to cover all villages by opening new centres in 1,500 uncovered villages. He also said that an investment of Rs 500 crore will be made over the next five years while an allocation at Rs 47 crore is for the financial year 2024-25.
The Chief Minister informed that Government has undertaken a phased upgradation of infrastructure in all the 2,044 Government schools under the umbrella of Mission education at a cost of Rs 326 crore while major renovation and reconstruction works has been completed in 220 Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools and works are on-going in about 100 schools with another 1,725 schools are at different stages of renovation
Sangma said to engage adolescents and youth at the community level, the government has sanctioned an ambitious project for the setting up of Libraries for Children and Adolescents in 750 villages of the State at an estimated cost of Rs 162 crore.
“I am announcing a new scheme for supporting the higher secondary students”, Sangma said that the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme will be provided in 2024-25 to the meritorious students in class XI and XII. He also said that the government will also be launching a new program for promoting the comprehensive well-being of adolescents called MPOWER with an investment of Rs 380 crore.
The Chief Minister informed that the Government is allocating Rs 3,539 crore to strengthen all the interventions in the education sector, including Rs 1,335 crore as grants-in-aid salaries.
