Meghalaya Governor grants Rs 50,000 aid to crime victim
Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan, announced an immediate financial assistance of 50,000 rupees to aid a victim of a heinous crime. This announcement was made during a meeting on July 24 at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, with Dr. KC Boro, Ex-MLA, and former Minister of Meghalaya.
Dr. Boro, along with members of the Meghalaya Koch Women Welfare Association (MKWWA), informed the Governor about the sexual assault of two minor tribal girls from the Koch community on April 16, 2024, in South West Garo Hills District. The victims have demanded 10 lakh rupees, the maximum compensation allowed under the Victim Compensation Scheme 2022.
Governor Chauhan emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, particularly women and children, and reiterated the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future. He assured Dr. Boro and the delegation that the matter would be taken up with the relevant authorities for immediate action.
