Meghalaya Govt all set to establish National Law University at Rs 6 Cr
The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government is all set to establish a National Law University at Rs 6 ½ crore in the state.
The decision was made after the state cabinet approved the National Law University of Meghalaya Ordinance, 2022.
Addressing media persons, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “I am happy to inform you that the cabinet has cleared the ordinance today which means that the National Law University of Meghalaya has been approved. Of course this has to go to the Assembly for final approval but the decision to establish a National Law University has been taken today.”
He informed that the University will be functioning from a temporary campus at the initial stage till a permanent campus is set up. About 60 students will be taken every year.
Sangma said that the financial impact on an annual basis will be approximately Rs 6 ½ crore depending on the assets and different infrastructure created and that the capital expenditure will differ from year to year.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the sanctioned posts for the model degree college at Rongjeng in East Garo Hills.
Just a few weeks back, the government had agreed to create posts for the model college at Patharkhmah.
