Meghalaya govt announces Rs 700 as weekly allowance for daily wage earners
The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has announced relief measures for the state’s daily wage earners to help them meet their daily needs during the ongoing lockdown to prevent spread of COVID-19.
To help them meet their daily needs given the coronavirus outbreak.
The decision was approved by the state cabinet during its meeting chaired by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma here on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said the government has decided to extended financial help to all daily wage earners under the Chief Minister’s Relief Against Wage Loss Scheme (CMRAWLS).
“A sum of Rs 700 would be provided to each of the daily wage earners including petty traders per week and the same will be transferred to eligible beneficiaries directly to their bank accounts,” he said.
He said the number of daily wage earners is still being collected at the moment.
Tynsong also informed that those who are not entitled to avail the scheme includes registered building and other construction workers, MNREGA job card holders, muster roll, casual and contractual workers in different departments and farmers registered under KISAN
Asked, the deputy chief minister said that hawkers are also covered under the CMRAWLS.
It may be mentioned here that the state government had also announced Rs 1,000 to building and other construction workers to mitigate the distress faced by them during the lockdown period.
