Meghalaya Govt constitutes special committee to simplify mining lease/quarry permit process: Tynsong
The state government has constituted a special committee to revisit the Meghalaya Minor Minerals Concession Rules (MMMCR), 2016 for simplifying the process of getting mining lease or quarry permit.
Informing this after chairing a meeting on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “The committee constituted by the forest department to revisit and review again the present form of the MMMCR…because in Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Act, 1957, we also have one part of the Act, which is known as minor minerals (such as sands, stones quarrying/mining of these items), ultimately government has notified this committee.”
Tynsong informed that he has instructed the forest department and the mining and geology department to again further study “where are the places where we can further ease the clauses of the process of getting the license or quarry permit.”
Asked, the deputy CM said, “Why illegal activities happened it just because those poor people in the village specially, they have the sand quarry, stone quarry, they wanted to apply for license or mining lease or quarry permit but the process is so technical so long on the basis of that we have this special committee to work out and simplify the process of application so that even the small miners can understand the way of application for getting mining lease and quarry permits.”
The meeting was attended by members of the joint action committee of miners from different districts of the state.
According to Tynsong, the next meeting of the committee will be held very soon.
