Meghalaya Govt directs checking of unregulated entry during pandemic
The state government has directed the district administrations of Ri Bhoi and East Khasi Hills to restrict entry of people from outside during the total lockdown for containing the second wave of COVID-19 in the state.
This came after many people, who mostly are migrant labourers, were apprehended by different social organizations during the past two days.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the issue related to the unregulated entry of people from outside was taken up in today’s meeting to review the COVID-19 situation in the state.
“Accordingly, we have issued clear directions to the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police (of both the districts) that they need to be vigilant by checking each and every vehicle coming into the state,” Tynsong said.
He said people from other states are not supposed to enter Ri Bhoi and East Khasi Hills during the lockdown period in view of the uncontrollable surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.
“The district administrations should not allow entry of people from outside during the lockdown period except emergency cases. Therefore, they have to be more vigilant and they should check all vehicles coming into the state,” the deputy chief minister added.
