Meghalaya Govt incurred Rs. 2,015 crore for payment of salaries to teachers annually
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma apprised that the Government allocated the Education Sector an amount of Rs. 2,884 crore out of which Rs. 2,015 crore is earmarked for payment of salaries to teachers while presenting the budget on Thursday.
He also said that the government will make sustained efforts to improve the quality of learning at the primary, secondary and the higher-secondary levels through investing in teacher training, deployment of technology and systematic testing of students
The Government have undertaken works to build and upgrade the infrastructure at all the government schools in the State, Sangma said that new infrastructure is being constructed at 208 schools at a cost of Rs. 109 crore.
He also said that Major upgradation of infrastructure is being taken up at 111 schools at a cost of Rs. 97 crore. Minor repairs are being taken up at about 1,750 schools with an estimated cost of Rs. 62 crore.

The Chief Minister informed the construction of the ‘College of Science and Commerce’ at Mawphlang, East Khasi Hills and at Mahendraganj, South West Garo Hills will be completed next year. Every effort is being made to start the academic sessions in these colleges at the earliest, he added.
Sangma said that three provincialized government colleges in Baghmara, Sohra and Williamnagar, with a total cost of Rs. 36 crore will be completed in 2023-24. He also informed four new polytechnics in Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills will also be made functional.

The Chief Minister said that Pre and post matric scholarships amounting to Rs. 175 crore have been distributed in the current financial year. “We will streamline the process of scholarship disbursement for 2023-24,” while he added that Government is allocating Rs. 180 crore to support the students of our State.
