Meghalaya Govt sanctions Rs 15 Cr for onsite sludge treatment project
PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak on Wednesday informed that the government has sanctioned Rs 15 crore for implementation of the onsite sludge treatment project at Mawphlang
Speaking to reporters, Marak said, “Now, we are going for the tendering and after the tendering we will allot the work to the qualified company.”
The minister has also informed this to a delegation of traditional headmen under Mawphlang Lyngdohship after they threatened to move the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the sludges disposed of from the PHE water treatment plant at Mawphlang to the downstream of the Wah Rina river.
“But on hearing my statement they (headmen) are very happy and they have told me that they will not go to NGT anymore as the government is taking care of the problems that they are facing,” Marak said.
He said, “On completion of the project, we will be benefiting in two ways. One is we will be getting another 2 MLD of water from the sludges and the sludges will not be there downstream in the Wah Rina river and people will not have to suffer with the sludge problems that they have been facing.”
