Meghalaya Govt sanctions Rs 26 Cr for completion of Jowai market complex: JHADC CEM
The state government has sanctioned Rs 26 crore for the construction of the long-awaited Jowai market complex.
This was informed by the JHADC chief Thombor Shiwat during the inauguration of the council’s durbar hall at Loomsoiung, Jowai on Tuesday.
“The state government has sanctioned Rs 26 crore for the construction of the Jowai market complex. This has happened due to hard work done by the present executive committee, which had met the government from time to time on the issue,” Shiwat said.

The proposal for re-development of the market was accorded administrative approval in July 2006.
A total of Rs 20.09 crore was sanctioned by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), of which the first instalment amounting to Rs 6.33 crores was released on February 10, 2009.
It was on February 4, 2020 that the chief minister Conrad K Sangma had inspected the incomplete market complex and announced that government’s decision to sanction fund for resuming the construction of the much-delayed Jowai shopping complex at Iawmusiang market, pending the release of the second installment by the Centre.
