The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal for construction of the Medical Skill Hunar Hub at a cost of Rs 151.95 crore in Babadam, West Garo Hills District.
Speaking to reporters, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said that the project was first initiated in 2020.
He said West Garo Hills was the only district that got selected that time to get the funds for the project under the minority affairs. However from 2022, that has changed and now all districts are eligible to get funds from the minority affairs.
He informed that out of Rs 282 crore proposed for the project, the government of India Minority Affairs has sanctioned Rs 151.95 crore for the project on a 90:10 funding pattern.
The hunar hub will have a space for 2,500 students. It will also have a pharmaceutical college, a nursing college, a paramedical college and one skill development centre.
“There will be a large number of hostels for all the students who are studying at the centre,” he said.
According to him, the hunar hub will become one of the largest centres for medical skill in the entire North East.
Meanwhile, Sangma also informed that the initial installment has been released and the Engineering Project Ltd (EPL), which is a public sector undertaking, has been asked to execute the work.
“The work for this will be done through a PSU which is Engineering Project Ltd which is a public sector undertaking. This PSU was also selected after a bidding process and other PSUs had also submitted their bids and out of the three bids, the L1 was EPI and they have been asked to execute the work,” he informed.
