Meghalaya Govt to implement scheme for extending financial support to poor prisoners
The state Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to implement a central government scheme for extending financial support to poor prisoners that are there in the different jails of the state.
Informing this after the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that this is basically a scheme of the government of India and states are supposed to implement it adding that the financial impact is zero for the state as the entire amount is paid by the government of India.
“This is basically meant for BPL prisoners, who are in prison and are not financially strong enough to take up different bails, procedures and payments to be made so that they can be free or come out or can fight their case,” he said.
“We have been preparing this for the last few months and now we are ready to roll it out and approval was given today by the cabinet to implement the scheme for financial support to poor prisoners,” the CM added.
