Meghalaya Govt to include JHADC for resolving boundary dispute with Assam in the Second Phase
In what could be termed as a step in the right direction, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday announced the inclusion of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) in the Regional Committee for resolving the disputed areas of Khanduli-Psiar and Block-I in the Second Phase of the Assam Meghalaya Boundary.
“I assured the Government will find a solution for resolving the disputed areas of Khanduli-Psiar, Block-I-II and four others to be taken in the Second Phase, which no other Government had taken up in the past fifty year,” Sangma told a massive gathering of nearly four thousand people in public meeting at Madan Khmutwasain, Mowkaiaw organized by the NPP West Jaintia Hills District.
The Chief Minister said that the will of the people living in the six disputed areas will be supreme as the Assam Govt and the Meghalaya Govt will ask the people concerned whether they will like to be in Assam or Meghalaya and the Assam Govt agreed that the will of the people will be deciding factor for resolving the disputed areas.

Notably, the meeting between Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held on Sunday decided go ahead with the Second Phase and to include the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) during the process.
Coming to the issues afflicting the people of Mowkaiaw Constituency, Sangma said there are lots of crimes and lot of problems in the Barato Area and “I’m happy to inform you that we have agreed to put up a police outpost in Barato area and this will be clear by the Planning department and by the Chief Minister’s office within the next one week times and very hopefully in one month time we will come again to laid the foundation stone for the police outpost out there and we will start the work for the police outpost immediately.” He also said that on the same day while laying the foundation stone for the Police Outpost they will also the foundation stone for setting up a fire station in Raliang.
Road connectivity has been a major issue in Mowkaiaw Constituency and as soon as they took over the government a very important road for the Pasyih-Garampani road of almost 28 Km was taken up at a cost of Rs 65 crore and in the last two-three years the work of this road also has been completed and this has been possible only because of this NPP led government, Sangma said.
He also said that the Raliang-Sahsniang Road has been put priority in the PMGSY list and they have put up the proposal to the Government of India to sanction it and this particular road of Raliang-Sahsniang under PMGSY will also be sanction soon.
The Chief Minister said that when they took up the Government in 2018, Meghalaya Government was almost in a black listed group as it is one of the few states who not implementing PMGSY and hence Government of India had almost stop sanctioning new projects.
But after this NPP government came in the last 4-half years they have worked tirelessly to ensure that the PMGSY roads are constructed throughout the district and state, he said in the last five years they have constructed five times more PMGSY roads that have been constructed in the last 15 years by previous government.
The NPP National President declared Habahun Dkhar as the party candidate from Mowkaiaw Constituency. He also informed that the internal road of Mowkaiaw Village will be constructed shortly due to the initiative taken by Dkhar.
Others who spoke included Dkhar, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, Raliang MLA Comingone Ymbon and Chief Executive Member of JHADC Thombor Shiwat.
