Meghalaya Govt to release financial aid to over 1.20 lakh daily wage earners
The state government is all set to release financial assistance of Rs 2,100 each to over 1.20 lakh daily wage earners, who are affected due to the 21-day nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision was taken by the cabinet during its meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma here on Monday.
After the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “The cabinet has approved the proposal of the labour department where a total of 1.20 lakh beneficiaries will be paid Rs 700 each for three weeks in view of the lockdown from March 23 to April 14.”
He said each beneficiary will be getting Rs 2,100. The financial assistance is being extended under the Chief Minister’s Relief Against Wage Loss (CMRAWL).
Earlier, the state government had released wages to the tune of Rs 316.60 crore to over 5.45 lakh households under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) to ease their hardships due to the present crisis arising due to COVID-19 lockdown.
Besides, over 22,826 building and other construction workers have also received weekly allowance of Rs 1000 recently.
