Meghalaya Govt to take a call on introduction of new streams, new shifts after submission of proposals by DSEOs

The state government will soon take a call for upgradation of secondary schools to higher secondary schools, introduction of new streams and opening of new shifts after receiving the proposals from the district school education officers (DSEOs), who have been directed to supply the admission forms to all successful students of the SSLC examination, this year.
This was informed by Director School Education Literacy Banteilang J Kharshandi after a meeting chaired by the Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri with the DSEOs and SDSEOs on the class XI admission here on Monday.
Kharshandi said with regards to the up-gradation of the four government secondary schools to higher secondary schools, this will be taken up by the government.
He added as far as the intake capacity is concerned; the department has instructed all the DSEOs to actually supply the admission forms for different streams in which all the respective institutions that wanted to upgrade to higher secondary.
“Depending on the response from the students, the DSEOs will actually take a call on whether the proposal for introduction of new streams in the existing institution needs to be done or not. Accordingly, by tomorrow all the proposals will be finalised by DSEOs before we take up with the cabinet,” Kharshandi said adding “By tomorrow when all the proposals for opening up of new streams and opening up of new shifts have been received by DSEOs then the government will take a call on when to actually close the admission and to also start or fixing the date for the start of the new academic session.”
The Director also informed that the department will appoint teachers based on the assessment to be made by the DSEO. He however maintained that if there are only 8-10 students, it would not be justified for the government to open up a new stream and appoint teachers.
“So depending on the number of students like for example, if we get a least 30-40 students, say for example opening up of a new stream in science in any government higher secondary school then that proposal can be sent to us accordingly we will take the approval of the cabinet and after the cabinet approval is being given then we will also give instructions to all the DSEOs to go ahead with the admission process, to go ahead with the new academic session and for the time being till the regular recruitment is being done then the temporary appointment can be given to all the teachers,” he stated.
Asked, the director said that as per data available and while taking into account the number of private institutions, the number of institutions will be sufficient to accommodate all students, including the upcoming CBSE and ICSE results.
