Meghalaya: Govt warns action against bonded doctors
The state government on Saturday has threatened to take strict action against bonded doctors, if they fail to report to the state, which is witnessing a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases, by the end of this month.
“We request all bonded doctors to report to the state within this month else we will be forced to give a notice that they have to repay the bond which ranges from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh,” Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War told reporters here.
“We may also reveal their names if they fail to report within the stipulated time,” he said while reminding that the state government had sent many candidates to study MBBS under the state quota.
He said as per the bond signed by these doctors, they are not supposed to work in other private hospitals.
Asked, Dr War said there are approximately 50 bonded doctors who have refused to serve in the government hospitals.
Stating there is an acute shortage of doctors in the state, the Director said that the government is going to advertise around 120 posts to effectively deal with the pandemic situation in the state.
