The Meghalaya High Court has directed the Amicus Curiae to make a personal visit to find out the steps taken to mitigate the damage caused to the Myntdu River due to the construction of the Jowai bypass.
While hearing a PIL, the Court in its order passed on Tuesday said, “In this view of the matter, this Court considers it necessary to request the Amicus to make a personal visit accompanied by some affected landowners in the vicinity/specifically paddy field owners and also the concerned officials from the PWD (Roads), National Highways as also the District Administration. A convenient date may be worked out by the Amicus and the inspection should be completed before 18 .10.2024.”
This was after a status report was filed today by the State respondents indicating the steps that have been taken to mitigate the damage caused to the Myntdu River due to the construction of Jowai bypass and the same is taken on record.
Advocate General while apprising the Court has referred to the status report and also the photographs annexed thereto to show that adequate steps have now been put in place to arrest any further damage being caused.
