Meghalaya HC directs NHAI to complete repairing of NH-6 from Jowai to Ratacherra
The Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday directed completion of the repairing of the damaged portion of 45 out of 102.225 kilometers of the national highway (NH-6) between Jowai and Ratacherra.
Out of this stretch, 5 km was very badly damaged.
The court had on November 6, directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to repair this 5 km on an emergency basis so that it became conveniently pliable by vehicles.
Today, S Sengupta appearing for the said authority submits that in compliance with the said order of this bench, emergency repair work has been carried out in this 5 km stretch.
K Khan, AAG appearing for the State submits that the government has rendered all assistance to the authority to ensure the smooth movement of traffic during this repair work.
S Sengupta further submitted that the remaining portion of the repair work would be completed by March, 2025.
After hearing a PIL filed by (L) advocate Kynjaimon Amse, the bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice B Bhattacharjee said, “In those circumstances, we direct S Panthi, learned Amicus Curiae to make an inspection of the 5 km damaged portion of the highway and file a short report before the returnable date with regard to the submission of S. Sengupta that repair work in this stretch has been completed”.
“We also direct that the repair work for the rest of the 45 km should continue towards completion as assured by S Sengupta. The State government shall also render all assistance to the authority to ensure smooth movement o f traffic during this repairing work. We make this PIL returnable on 5th February, 2025 before the regular bench to receive the report of the Amicus Curiae,” it said.
