Meghalaya HC disposes of PIL as NEHU bouncing back to normalcy
The Meghalaya High Court on Friday disposed of a PIL after the situation in the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is slowly moving towards normalisation.
Passing its judgment and order, the bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice B Bhattacharjee said, “This Court had taken cognizance of the state of affairs in NEHU, at the instance of P Yobin, advocate. Today, it is submitted by him that the situation in the University is slowly moving towards normalisation. The scheduled examinations have been postponed. Classes have commenced.”
It said that the enquiry committee constituted by the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, New Delhi is inquiring into the issues before it upon extension of time to file its report granted by the Central government.
The facts have been confirmed by K Khan, AAG appearing for the State, S Sen, counsel appearing for the University and K Gurung, counsel appearing for the Union of India.
“We think the purpose of this public interest litigation has been served. We dispose of this petition with the above observations, with liberty to apply afresh, if the occasion so arises in the future,” the bench further stated in its order.
