Meghalaya HC hears PIL against recent collapse of retaining wall at PA Sangma Sports Complex
The Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday took up hearing on a PIL against the recent collapse of the retaining wall of the football stadium of the PA Sangma Sports Complex in West Garo Hills District. The PIL was filed by Amit R Marak.
In its order, the division bench has directed that all the respondents should be served and informed that the matter will appear a week hence.
“In particular, the fourth respondent should indicate the contractual specifications that may not have been followed and the period of warranty during which the contractor is required to set right anything found remiss,” it said.
In the meantime, the State would do well to clear the debris from the road alongside the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura which appears to be blocked and local residents may be facing serious problems as a consequence, the bench said.
The next hearing will be held on July 6.
The state government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Informing this on Monday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had said, “Based on the preliminary report, it is nothing that serious about the entire thing but we are not taking any chance so hence we will have a magisterial enquiry done and we will do a safety audit to ensure all aspects are looked into.”
“If we find anything in the magisterial inquiry based on that we will decide on how to go forward,” he had added.
