Meghalaya HC satisfied with steps taken by govt to address COVID related issues
The division bench of the Meghalaya High Court Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the state government in addressing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
“At this stage it is seen, the initial issues that were brought to the notice of this Court such as the disposal of dead bodies of COVID victims, the spread of the disease amongst the Armed and Para-Military Forces, the ill treatment of health workers, measures regarding the supply of PPE kits, disinfectants etc, awareness as to home quarantine and quarantine for returnees, apart from the other issues, have to a large extent been addressed and the authorities concerned have taken active steps in this regard,” Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh noted in their order issued on Tuesday.
During a hearing on the ongoing pandemic, the bench however noted the entire scenario in the fight against the spread of the virus, has been constantly changing.
It also asked the Bar Association to continue bringing forward any pressing problems or issues, which are being faced by the public, especially now due to the community spread of the virus.
The bench was also informed that the plasma bank at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) was inaugurated today. The next hearing is scheduled to be held on October 16.
