Meghalaya hosts loan mela to empower street vendors as part of PRAISE Awards
The Meghalaya State Urban Livelihood Mission (SULM), under the Urban Affairs Department, Government of Meghalaya, organized a loan mela on October 24 to empower street vendors as part of the PRAISE (Performance Recognition for Access to Financial Inclusion and Street Vendors Empowerment) Awards.
Dignitaries in attendance included Satish Kumar Singh, Under Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, P.K. Boro, Director of Urban Affairs and State Mission Director of DAY-NULM & PMSVANidhi, MSULM, and Larisa Mawroh, State Mission Manager and Assistant Nodal Officer for Meghalaya Street Vendors.
Satish Kumar Singh commended Meghalaya for its significant progress, particularly in achieving its target for the first loan. He highlighted the state’s success in the 2nd and 3rd loan phases, terming it a major achievement and expressing optimism for further advancements.
The PRAISE Awards, held on Wednesday, recognized outstanding performance and celebrated the contributions of stakeholders, including Urban Local Bodies and banks, for their role in empowering street vendors economically.
